K.R.O.N.O.S.

When the time came to create villains for JET BOY, I felt that his rogues gallery had to be off the wall. I tried to make them exactly the opposite of what most people are used to seeing in comics. So I came up with the idea that instead of making random villains that just appear out of the blue, since JET BOY is part of a government organization, he should be up against what ever is considered a threat to that organization. In short...terrorists. So K.R.O.N.O.S was born.

K.R.O.N.O.S. is a group of spies/terrorists who's mission is to steal the T-ONE9 unit, a technology that SECTION 17 feel that is extremely important but could be fatal to humankind if it falls into the wrong hands. Yes there is a purpose for the unit, yes K.R.O.N.O.S. is an acronym, but for the sake of the storyline, I can't publish why the unit is so important or what the acronym means. The K.R.O.N.O.S. organization has "agents" representing 12 countries.

PAUL PERKINS/JET BOY

Once I got the specifics down on who JET BOY was as a character, the next step was to create his alter ego. Every hero has one. So I came up with PAUL PERKINS. The traditional formula for creating an alter ego for a superhero has always been to make him appear the opposite as what his superhero persona is. So the plan was to make him as average as possible. Therefore, he had to have an average name. And PAUL seemed pretty average. The next step was to have his initials be the same, as seen with PETER PARKER as an example. PERKINS came from an underground musician named DUDLEY PERKINS who I had grown to be a huge fan of around the time of JET BOY's creation. I always credited his music as life changing. Meaning it had the ability to make me see life in a different light. With that said, the name PAUL PERKINS had both elements of an average person and a savior.

PAUL PERKINS is a 10 year old kid who others see as average due to the fact that he keeps a pretty low profile. But thanks to SECTION 17 approaching him under the cover of THE GLOBAL 17 academic program, he was trained as a young agent and given his JET BOY status along with missions to carry out under SECTION 17 surveilence.

This was a collab i did with Adam "DynamoRobo" Millicevic back in 2003. He and I met at Megacon that year I believe and seemed to hit it off artistically. His colors seemed to match my drawing style, and if I'm not mistaken, this is the first piece he colored of mine.

EARLY SKETCHES

So I came across some old JET BOY sketches from 2003. I was in my office trying to come up with concepts for an ANIMATRIX submission back then. The main character was a kid that I actually based on my son. The story I was going to submit actually started to grow and take shape into something new altogether. The woman behind Paul Perkins, was still his teacher in the ANIMATRIX story, still named MS. BABCOCK. About a month later, JET BOY was born.

Just started on some new layouts for the cast of JET BOY the other night. I'll have those posted soon as i finish the colors. So far I've got Paul, his brother Pete, and his kid sister Pammy. Lots of work left to do! Blaaaaaaah!
